Working together by chance, two people on very different business trajectories realised that they'd both discovered the same thing ... to increase the profitability of a business, you must fully understand what its workaday operating data are telling you about its efficiency - and the simplest way to do THAT is to quantify its emitted carbon.
Richard has over 30 years of experience in business management and environmental sustainability. As an environmental consultant he has a track record of working with organisations of all sizes to assess and manage their impact on the environment and improve their resource efficiency.
Richard has written and implemented environmental, quality and safety management systems to ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and BS OHSAS 18001 standards for a broad range of industries.
He has also delivered reports and feasibility studies for resource efficiency and renewable energy projects and successfully registered complex renewable energy installations with OFGEM in order to claim Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) support.
Prior to becoming a management consultant Richard was responsible for the design, production and delivery of high quality racing sailboats with clients including World and Olympic champions. He was part of the team that developed RS Sailing into the World’s leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of performance sailboats.
Richard was also an RNLI lifeboat helmsman for over 10 years.
Simon specialises in cost saving through carbon management and resource efficiency. He is an IEMA ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, a CIEH Professional Trainer, and a qualified verifier of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.
Having focussed on carbon management systems for the last eight years, Simon has extended routine resource efficiency tracking into simple-to-use software which builds a carbon profile from routine billing and balance-sheet information - a profile which guides a business to simultaneously cut its carbon emissions and its costs.
Simon’s technical background was as a research engineer at Hewlett Packard Laboratories, working on industrial applications of artificial intelligence and then on systems for real-time monitoring of water quality. Before that, he worked in the Artificial Intelligence group at British Telecom Research Labs at Martlesham Heath, Suffolk.
He has a degree in neurobiology and a Ph.D in the biophysics and neuroanatomy of sensory mechanisms.

The mission of Carbon Lens is to reduce a business' costs by increasing the efficiency of its operations, and its profitability. To quantify efficiency we use the only measure that applies to every business activity - the carbon it emits.
And higher efficiency means bigger margin.
